Have you ever considered commissioning a painting?

It may seem a little old fashioned these days to consider such and thing and cost can be a deterrent. But let us consider for a moment.

It will be unique and personal, last a life time & beyond, certainly something to bequest to future generations.

In terms of cost, prices are initially based on a decent wage for the artist who will spend time not just physically painting the picture, but they bring their experience to ensuring the image created is cohesive and complete.  Time will be spent assessing and reworking the image until the moment when it 'works'.

Obviously as a self employed artist, they must also include cost of materials and overheads in their pricing. For the buyer, if unsure if the cost seems high, consider what the price may be for other luxury goods, which may date and what is a fair wage for a months work for example.

A final consideration, once which will no doubt be in the back of both buyer and artist's mind, is that the value of works can go up, something that can be assured as the artist grows in reputation through sales and by word of mouth.
